    Depending on the area treated, it can take as little as 15 minutes and up to an hour. There is an initial pinkness and swelling which typically subsides after 24-36 hours. It may take up to a week for this to completely dissolve.

  • How long before I see results?

  • How many treatments will I need?

Microneedling Pre and Post Care Instructions


  • BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE

    • 14 DAYS BEFORE PROCEDURE: Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.
    • 3-5 DAYS BEFORE PROCEDURE: Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Vitamin C, or any “anti-aging” products. Also, avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
    • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
    • Avoid this procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE

    • Arrive to the office with a “clean face”. Please do not wear makeup.
    • Your treatment will last approximately 60 minutes.

  • RECUPERATION + HEALING

    • Wait a few hours (preferably at bed time) before gently washing your face. Using a gentle cleanser, massage your face to remove the remaining serum and dried blood.
    • 12-48 HOUR POST TREATMENT: Continue using a gentle cleanser to wash your face. You may use a light moisturizer, hyaluronic acid serums, sunscreen, and mineral based make-up. Be sure to wear SPF30 or greater.
    • AFTER 48-72 HOURS POST TREATMENT: You may start using your regular skin care regimen. Using a retinol product is strongly recommended as it will optimize your results.

  • AVOID THE FOLLOWING

    • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. These types of medications will interfere with the inflammatory response that is crucial for optimal results and skin rejuvenation.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure for 10 days post treatment. NO TANNING BEDS.

  • WARNING

    There may be some degree of swelling immediately after treatment; however, if you have excessive swelling or any of the following signs of infection, you should contact the office immediately.  Signs of infection include:


    • Drainage – looks like pus
    • Increased warmth at or around the treated area
    • Fever of 101.5 or greater
    • Extreme itching
